Let’s stipulate that the Model T did everything that the history books say: It put America on wheels, supercharged the nation’s economy and transformed the landscape in ways unimagined when the first Tin Lizzy rolled out of the factory. Well, that’s just the problem isn’t it?
So supercharging our economy, putting American industry on the map, and providing one of the greatest technological advances in the history of the world is “the problem”? If supercharging an economy is so bad, why isn’t Time out there criticizing the stimulus? I mean really, providing a way for people to get from point A to point B that doesn’t involve days of walking, or even worse, “enslaving” a horse against it’s will, is “the problem”? Really? Oh, but it doesn’t stop there.
The Model T…conferred to Americans the notion of automobility as something akin to natural law, a right endowed by our Creator. A century later, the consequences of putting every living soul on gas-powered wheels are piling up, from the air over our cities to the sand under our solders’ boots.
You just HAD to know they couldn’t get a 200 word blurb without condemning the “war for oil”. “If it weren’t for that darn contraption, we wouldn’t be in this stupid war!”. Let’s completely ignore the fact that if Iraq and Afghanistan truly were “wars for oil” that we’d be seeing a decrease in gas prices. Oh, let’s also neglect to mention that we probably could care less about what goes on in the entire Middle East if we would just drill our own land for our own oil.
Furthermore, TIME is critizing the Model-T because it gave Americans the idea that having a car was a right? Really? Now Healthcare, that’s totally different, that’s completely a right endowed by our Creator. It must be under the same section of the Constitution as affordable housing and cell-phones
That’s the kind of backwards thinking these people use on a daily basis. One of the greatest technological advancements of all time is eeeeeevil. These are the kinds of people who voted Obama into office and support the liberal agenda. These are the people who put the current administration (you know, the people that pass laws and regulations over our economy) in charge.
